Here members can find current information regarding the Orange County Veteran's Cemetery. |
The cemetery is now being referred to as SCVC -> "Southern California Veteran's Cemetery - Gypsum Canyon Site". The most recent news was a release of a report by the State who picked up the cost of the study. The Geotechnical Investigation and Design Recommendation Report details what is needed for the cemetery to be built. You can read an article from the Orange County Register referencing the report by clicking on the links below. The entire report can be found through links as well.
Our take : SCVC, if completed, will share a site for a proposed Orange County Public Cemetery at Gypsum Canyon in Anaheim Hills. See the link for a map.
The public cemetery will begin construction first. This will save SCVS money needed to grade the Veteran section. However the public cemetery isn't fully approved and might not be built. In that case, SCVC may still be allowed to proceed, but will face additional grading requirements along with the associated costs.
The complete build-out of SCVC is expected to span 100 years allowing for the cemetery to be completed on as-needed basis. The plan entails 10 phases with Phase 1 including the construction of central buildings and infrastructure needed for the operation and maintenance of the Cemetery.
There are legal and funding issues to tackle before grading for Phase 1 will begin. In summary, SCVC will most not be available to our departed Veterans until 2027 at the earliest, and unfortunately, it is still possible it may never happen.
